Artist's Statement | Being self-taught as well as art school trained I use my experience as both pupil and teacher to guide my sense of possibility. I am a student of “The Unknown Craftsman” with the writings of Post Modernism in my book bag. My ideas coalesce amidst making, chance, and a sprinkling of the analytic. Themes that remain central to my work are loss, vulnerability, and community.
My current work travels from the utility of tableware to “fired paintings” with surface layers built up through repeated firings. In between the table and wall are sculptures defined by the soft volume that is the nature of clay’s materiality.
